One of the great things about being in a band is having the opportunity to collaborate in the creation of art-product. Today, for instance, a couple of band members are coming over to record their parts for the Auction Winners’ songs–and who knows what sorts of parts they’ll come up with? I don’t! [...]

And, despite our eHarassment, the dude still had nice things to say about us!
In other news, I read this amazing and cogent article by Naomi Klein called “Disaster Capitalism” (not online, dammit) in the October issue of Harper’s. I’d like to think I have a lot to say about it, because it’s one of [...]

A brand new iPod!1
Oh, and it looks like you people will be getting a holiday video after all, thanks to a thoughtful gift I received from Pennystripe.
Actually, my old-ass iPod decided to wipe itself clean of the 60GB of music it had accumulated over the past few years, including numerous albums and songs that I [...]

After a 300% increase in sales in September, Roboctopus suffered a sharp decline in October (I blame the mortgage crisis), selling a grand total of five copies and one song (”Everybody Hates Me”) via iTunes.
Sales of the physical cd have also leveled off, although various economic forecasters have predicted a rebound in late ‘09.
On the [...]

Hey, guess what? These songs are nowhere near being done. Now I have to write an apologetic email to the three winners extending the deadline a couple more weeks. Which means I have to invent some bullshit gift-giving New Year’s pseudo-deity for comic effect. Something like this:
“Ho ho ho! I [...]

Open the Asphalt Pantry and see what’s for dinner.1

Not from us, obviously.
The linked video is a nice experiment in psychological profiling. I’ve never gone out of my way to watch David Letterman, but he’s always amused me–particularly with his “I Will Keep Beating This Dead Horse Until It’s Funny Again” schtick.
Then again, I’m a big fan of being easily amused.

We now have an account at The Sixty One, which prides itself as a “music adventure.”
This just goes to show you that if you ask me to do something, no matter how stupid or demeaning, if it takes less than ten minutes, I’ll probably say yes.

And when I say “favorite poet,” believe me, the competition is fierce.
This time, she reviews our Invitation Only Show. It turned out OK, despite the fact that I felt like puking the entire time. I give all the credit to Ashod, who showed up and said something like, “That’s what rock and roll [...]
Here’s an update, with a week to go before our self-imposed deadline:
1. The TV Theme Song: “Theme to Love Bus”
The music is written, and recording is underway. We shot for Golden Girls, realized we couldn’t write anything resembling a Joni Mitchell song, and switched to a slightly more generic 80s style theme song. [...]

[ December 8, 2007; ] Tonight!
If you didn’t get an invitation, tough shit. Come see us next week when we play the Tonic. Look, the bands involved went to the trouble of making two entirely different posters:

For those of you that missed it on the Mercury blog, here’s what happens when you go around bragging about your upcoming wedding.

Pennystripe’s bio page now features “art.”
God I love Lewis Lapham. When he stepped down as editor of Harper’s this year, I was… well, mildly disappointed, since he’s still involved and since Roger Hodge seems like a fairly decent guy.
OK, I wasn’t disappointed at all. Harper’s is still like a little present from some idyllic futuristic society [...]
One way to help speed along an occasional song is for the subject of the song to disagree with me on matters of contemporary popular fiction.
Thanks, Sandra!

Not from us. You’ve got plenty from us, you bastards.
But how about some New Pornographers?

[ December 16, 2007; 9:00 pm to 11:59 pm. ] UPDATE: The lineup for the show is set… we’ll be playing with Happy Prescriptions and Jenny Sizzler… whose drummer for the show may look familiar to some of you…
+ + + + + +
Might as well put this on your calendars. We haven’t played in a while, and this will be our Christmas [...]

[ December 15, 2007; ] See? This isn’t a show. But I’m categorizing it as a show so that it appears on that nifty little calendar you see to the right of the blog.
Three songs.
