McCarthyism

Last night I finished reading “The Road” by Cormac McCarthy.
I started it three weeks ago, with pretty high hopes–”No Country for Old Men” was coming out in theaters (still haven’t seen it), and I remembered enjoying the only other book of his I’ve read (”Child of God”). After about sixty pages, I put it [...]

Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving

Got off on a tangent in that last post and forgot why I was posting in the first place.
Here it is, the Chiasmus Press Fight Song Contest winner, “The Man and How We Plan To Stick It To Him.”

I will say one thing about this song. I really wanted the line to be “their [...]

Sometimes all you have to do is show up

Now, I don’t want to overload their server, so it would be nice if our three readers would stagger their downloads, but the new Chiasmus Press podcast is up, featuring bumper music by Portland-based band Delightful Young Man.
Today, I am thankful for victory. More than that, I’m thankful for the many fine qualities in [...]

So now Joel is back

What year is it?  It’s not 1991, that’s for damn sure.  But it is Thanksgiving, which means it must be time to think about MST3K. Remember those crazy pre-Stewart & Colbert years when Comedy Central couldn’t afford movie rights to the latest ex-SNL star vehicles and had to run Mystery Science Theater all damn day?

Dr. Forrester [...]

UPDATE: 12/16/07 - Tonic Lounge

[ December 16, 2007; 9:00 pm to 11:59 pm. ] UPDATE: The lineup for the show is set… we’ll be playing with Happy Prescriptions and Jenny Sizzler… whose drummer for the show may look familiar to some of you…

+ + + + + +

Might as well put this on your calendars. We haven’t played in a while, and this will be our Christmas [...]

September Sales Report

In September, we sold six copies of Roboctopus via iTunes. We also sold one song! Someone out there decided that it was worth their while to own “Shark Attacks!” but they couldn’t be bothered with the rest of the album.
Anyway, thus far all sales have been through iTunes US. Which means we [...]

Gertrude Press Auction Winners

[ December 15, 2007; ] See? This isn’t a show. But I’m categorizing it as a show so that it appears on that nifty little calendar you see to the right of the blog.

Three songs.

HTWAOS, Part IV

Wow. It’s almost mid-November, and we still don’t have those Gertrude Press Auction Winner songs done. Hmmm… did I ever mention something about the importance of deadlines? Oh, yeah! I did!:
The best thing about Occasional Songs is that there is a built-in deadline. If you’re writing a song for someone’s birthday, [...]

Presents for Jimmy

This past week, I received a couple of presents. It’s not Christmas, and it’s not my birthday, so I figure this was just a pre-Thanksgiving display of gratitude for my existence.

First, from Pennystripe:

I was informed that the blank space was reserved for Musicians of Sound. I guess You’ll Get Nothing And Like It! [...]

The Music Model of the Present, Part Whatever

No record labels. Using the Internet as the primary means of distribution. Two bands that we as a nation should have stopped caring about a long, long time ago.
First, the Eagles. On the one hand, I’m happy to be alive at a time when a major label stalwart not named Prince decides [...]

Now we are all in hell

I would like to have more to say about this. I really, really would. Maybe I will, once the blood stops dripping from my eyes onto the keyboard.

PLEASE MAKE IT STOP, Filmmaker of Light.

BUMPED From our fans on myspace:

“DYM will soon rule the world. Remember who were your friends at the beginning. I want in when you’re drinking Cristal in the VIP rooms.”
“This was playing in my head all day….only Debbie Gibson can do that to me….WHO ARE YOU!!!!!??????? ”
“Hi,I’m deleting you as a friend but it’s nothing personal. I just decided to [...]

Speaking of the devil

Apparently, ol’ Satan’s busy working overtime on a new telemarketing scheme. He and his minions will leave REALLY CREEPY phone messages that leave listeners no choice but to forever reject Christ and the church.
That’s about the best explanation I can come up with for this:

The Family Circus LIVE AT BARNSTOCK

Finally–clips from Barnstock are up at our YouTube site. I’m almost positive that, after watching them, you may feel like you could’ve waited even longer to see them… possibly forever.
